Performance Test Method of PDC Cutters

The special structure technology and function of the oil-used roller cone bit In order to ensure the qualified and stable quality of the PDC cutter, the PDC cutter manufacturer must not only strictly implement the quality inspection of raw materials and control the production process, but also conduct laboratory simulation tests on the PDC finished product. Various performance tests are performed on PDC to verify the finished quality of PDC products by simulating various harsh service conditions of oil well processing. Common laboratory tests and test methods are mainly as follows.


1. PDC cutter wear ratio test


The wear ratio represents the weight of the standard grinding wheel cut off by the PDC wear amount per unit weight. The larger the wear ratio, the stronger the wear resistance of PDC. Mainly by comparing the weight change of PDC and standard grinding wheel before and after grinding, the wear ratio of PDC is calculated.


2. PDC cutter impact test


The impact resistance test is also called the drop hammer test, that is, the cutting edge of the PDC cutter is subjected to a standardized impact with a heavy object falling vertically from a given height. The PDC is placed obliquely and fixed at a certain angle (15°~25°). and the height indicate the impact energy that the composite sheet will be subjected to.


3. Thermal stability test of PDC cutter


It is mainly to test the high temperature resistance of PDC. The test method is to put PDC in a high temperature environment of 700°C - 750°C for 10-15 minutes, take it out and cool it naturally, check the change of diamond layer, and compare the wear resistance and resistance before and after the test. Changes in impact indicators.


4. PDC cutter turning granite


PDC cuts homogeneous granite at a fixed line speed and feed. During this process, PDC is not cooled in any way. Observe the working time of PDC under high temperature conditions, and calculate the volume ratio of PDC and granite loss.


5. Ultrasonic scanning of PDC cutter C


Ultrasonic waves of 0.2-800 MHz are used to detect delamination and void defects in PDC cutters. C-ultrasound can detect small defects and estimate their location and size. C-ultrasound can display the characteristic information results of the measured position and size on a plane, and the imaging plane is parallel to the scanning pattern of the probe. This test method can help observe defects in composite sheets that cannot be detected by visual imaging or microscopic imaging.


6. PDC cutter oil field drilling test


To verify the quality of PDC, it is necessary to combine the drilling site conditions and verify the performance indicators of PDC drill bits for sale by comparing the drilling footage, drilling speed and other indicators.
